Help us feed a child today

26 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Children's Feeding Trust
Pat Mongold and the Children’s Feeding Trust need your help

Just Fifty Eight rand for a crate will go a long way to help the Children’s Feeding Trust, now in its 56th year and operating from its office in the Walmer Town Hall.

The Trust presently assists 14 organizations with quarterly grants, which in turn are feeding 7000 children with food each day. These Beneficiaries are located in Port Elizabeth, as well as some in the more rural surrounding areas.

As an added bonus we receive a weekly donation from the PE Food Bank branch, of date expired perishable goods. These include bread, rolls, cakes, pies, fruit, vegetables and other goods.

They are collected weekly from the Foodbank depot, brought to our office from where it is distributed among our Beneficiaries, who come to collect what is allotted to them, so that by mid morning Little Ones are enjoying cake, rolls, buns and fruit. The vegetables received are reserved for the meal of the day and goes into the large cooking pots, be it stew, soup or whatever, thus constituting a basic nourishing meal and no time delay.

Pat Mangold says; “Collecting food in carton boxes is not sustainable and not the solution. The plastic foldable crates are the ideal. We have traced a company, Gauteng based who will sell them to us at R58 per crate, and a freight service that will fetch and deliver to us at R700.  This is a huge solution to our problem.”

The Children’s Feeding Trust is appealing to the generous citizens of the Friendly City to sponsor a Crate at R58. Donations can be made to:

  • Children’s Feeding Trust,
  • Standard Bank Rink Street,
  • Account No. 080279511,
  • Branch code 050417

or contact the Children’s Feeding Trust office.
