Head on Down to Hobie Beach for Round Two of the ORS

18 October 2011 By Zports

The second round of the popular Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series takes place from 9am on Sunday morning on Port Elizabeth’s Hobie Beach. Africa’s largest family lifestyle beach event is attracting hundreds of participants to PE’s premier beach on alternate Sunday mornings as they take part in one of 5 events on offer.

The Series, which is open to all, hosts the Varsity College 5km Beach Run and Walk, the Dis-Chem 1km or 2km Ocean Swim and the popular Kingfisher FM Kids 12 years and under 1km Beach Run/walk. Popularity of the Series grows each year as the fun and excitement of taking part in beach activities is coupled with a great value for money event which ensures that all finishers receive a Series medal and Glacéau vitamin water at each and every race day in the Series. Series Members also qualify for category winners and top 3 finishers medals with the 12 and under kids taking part in the 1km beach run each receiving a flavoured Bonaqua water and complimentary finish line photograph.

Sundays action should be dominated by South African Youth swimmer Chris van de Sande who remains unbeaten over the 1km swim distance and 5km beach runner Marinus Johnson who hasn’t been beaten at the Ocean Racing Series since December 2007. In the swimming events, the Jones family will also be out seeking more gold medals with Jason and Daniel pushing van de Sande in the 1km distance whilst Wayne will be determined to retain his 2km winners position from round 1. In the ladies 2km swim Adri Louw has made a welcome return back to competitive swimming and will be keen to achieve her second win of the Series with Liza Bright and Tammy Geyer keen to grab the gold.

Series registration is open till Thursday evening on www.oceanracingseries.com with entries taken for non-Series members on Sunday morning from 7.30am. The Ocean Racing Series will also be hoping to realise their second dream of the Series for the foundation with a special presentation planned just before prize giving at around 10.15am on Sunday.
