You are the head of a committee and a decision that your committee makes goes against what a stakeholder would like to see happen and what you recommended to the committee would morally be the correct action to take.
The stakeholder then holds you personally responsible for this perceived slight towards them.
You explain the situation to your stakeholder and that explanation is not heard or understood or believed or your stakeholder is so far up their own arse that they wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them on the head with a ten foot barge pole.
Years of low level public aggression toward you go past. More damaging stuff occurs when your stakeholder runs you down verbally to anyone that will listen.
Then, one day, your stakeholder is clued in to the truth and realises that they have been a proverbial six sided Afrikaans box about it.
AND, you become aware that your stakeholder is now armed with the truth and has SAID that they will apologise.
What do you do when the apology comes (if ever)?
- Accept gracefully and move on
- Acknowledge and ask for reparations to all the people who were told over 7 years that you are a 6 sided Afrikaans box (or the term that some rugby used to describe an opponent during the RWC!)
- Refuse the apology
