Flat seas for ORS this Sunday

18 November 2015 By Alan Straton

Another busy weekend is expected for the 4th Round of the popular aQuellé Ocean Racing Series in Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday as the Series gets underway at 9am on Hobie Beach. Following Round 3’s entry of over 500 participants, weather permitting, Sunday could see another record breaking entry for Season XI with the weather forecast predicting a gentle 14 knots west after Saturdays 31 knots south west to make for flat seas in the morning.

Both Ian Venter (1km swim) and Daniel Jones (2km swim) will be looking for their 3rd consecutive win of the season whilst Wayne Jones will be wanting to hold off the strong challenge of Dylan Smith in the 3km swim which Smith won in Round 1 and Jones in Round 3. In the 5km Beach walk, Juan Slabbert, will be keen to get back onto the podium after slipping into 2nd in the last round which Wayne Mitchell will also be keen to regain the winners gold medal which he won in round 1, placing just 3rd in the last round.

The Series is open to all with a once off series registration of just R50 being required and an entry fee for swim events of R60, for the beach events R40 and for the kids 1km beach run at just R30. Over R10,000 in lucky draw prizes is up for grabs each race day including R1,000 cash with the kids 12 years and under enjoying their open prize giving ceremony before the adult prize giving.

This weekend the charity beneficiary of the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series, the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise, are looking for donations of all unwanted clothing, shoes and blankets for their community projects. These unwanted items can be dropped off on Sunday morning at the Rotary Gazebo on the beach.

Sunday’s round 4 opens with registration at 7.30am ahead of the race starts from 9am followed by the prize giving on the beach from 10am.
