Father of international marketing to speak in Port Elizabeth

29 May 2014 By Alan Straton

Marketers and top corporate executives will have the opportunity of hearing from the “father of international marketing”, Prof Naresh Malhotra, when he talks at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) next week.

Providing a marketing perspective while “operating in an era of globalisation”, the man behind leading marketing textbooks will share his insights in the Council Chamers on the NMMU South Campus on Tuesday 3 June at 5:30pm.

His address, aimed at managers, will focus on the forces driving globalization, the research that needs to be done to penetrate foreign markets, and offer ideas on modes of entry for attacking markets abroad, all based on his own award-winning research.

“It is a must-attend talk for CEOs, marketing managers, and other corporate executives,” says NMMU Marketing Management Head Prof Madele Tait.

Senior Fellow at Georgia Tech CIBER and Regents’ Professor Emeritus at the Scheller College of Business at Georgia Institute of Technology, Malhotra has been listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America since 1997, and in Who’s Who in the World since 2000.

In 2010, he was selected as a marketing legend and his refereed journal articles were published in nine volumes by Sage with tributes by other leading scholars in the field. In 2011, he received the Best Professor in Marketing Management, Asia Best B-School Award. He was selected to receive the Hind Rattan Award in 2012.

A well-known publisher of many marketing textbooks, Prof Malhotra has published more than 125 papers in major refereed journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Marketing Science, Management Science, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Health Care Marketing, and leading journals in Statistics, Management Science, Information Systems, and Psychology.

In addition, he has also published numerous refereed articles in the proceedings of major national and international conferences. Several articles have received best paper research awards.

He is the Founding Editor of Review of Marketing Research and served as an Associate Editor of Decision Sciences for 18 years and has served as Section Editor, Health Care Marketing Abstracts, Journal of Health Care Marketing. Furthermore, he serves on the editorial board of 8 journals.

He has travelled and taught in 33 countries. His book entitled Marketing Research: An Applied Orientation, Sixth Edition, was published by Prentice-Hall in 2010. This book has been translated into Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Hungarian, French, Bahasa Indonesia, and Japanese. The book has received widespread adoption at both the graduate and undergraduate levels with more than 150 schools using it in the USA alone and is being used in over 100 countries.

Prof Malhotra has special expertise in data analysis and statistical methods. He is the winner of numerous awards and honours for research, teaching, and service to the profession, including the Academy of Marketing Science, Outstanding Marketing Teaching Excellence Award, 2003.

He is an ordained minister, a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta and President of Global Evangelistic Ministries. He has been married to Veena for more than 30 years and they have two children, Ruth and Paul.

A facebook comment: “What an interesting talk. One thing that I take with me after listening to Prof Naresh Malhotra is that we need to start thinking bigger than the market we are currently in. The only way to profit handsomely is to look for business globally.”
