Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Executive Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile will have to be strategic when delivering the keynote address at the South African Junior Chess Championship on Monday at the NMMU Indoor Sport Centre since chess players are known for their opening play and gambits.
Wayile, known for his iconic rise through the ranks as a union leader to become the city’s first citizen, will be addressing some of the country’s sharpest minds at the opening of the tournament on Monday morning at 8am.
Between 1 800 and 2 000 players from different age groups will be on our shores from 12 to 21 December to compete for the glory of representing South Africa at world youth chess championships all over the world.
