With the euphoria of a great weekend’s test rugby behind us it is time once again for the local rugby public to focus once more on our Eastern Province team working hard to ascend into Super Rugby from the Absa Currie Cup First Division, which is a two horse race at the moment, with the EP Kings and Regent Boland Cavaliers leading the pack at the end of the first round.
The EP Kings, still unbeaten this season, had a bye this week, but the Cavaliers closed the gap at the top of the standings by beating third-placed SWD Eagles by 49-24 at the Boland Stadium in Wellington on Friday afternoon.
Boland scored eight tries on a cold and wet afternoon, with Junior Bester getting a hattrick and Willie le Roux adding a brace.
At the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park, Reg Muller scored three of the Valke’s nine as they beat the Border Bulldogs by 57-42 in an entertaining and high scoring match.
The Bulldogs got a bonus point for four tries, which saw them move to six log points, one more than bottom placed Tasol Solar Griffons, who also had a bye this weekend.
The Boland Cavaliers will pass the EP Kings on the road to East London to meet Boland as the EP Kings are traveling down to George to play against SWD on Friday 26 August in Outeniqua Park at 17:05 George. The Boland vs Border game is being played at 19:00 at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.
Saturday 27 August at 17:00 will see the last placed, and yet to win a game, Griffons play against the Valke in the North West Stadium in Welkom.

I would glasly support the Kings, were it not for Puke Watson. Aa long as he is playing for them (never mind being captain, nog al), there is no way that I can support them
