EP Cricket Ladies Sign Women’s Big Bash League Contracts

Two Eastern Province and SA Women’s Cricket players, Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp have been contracted to play in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League taking place in December in Australia. They are the only two South Africans to sign full contracts.

Dane who at the young age of 16 captained the SA U19’s Women’s team will be playing for the Mebourne Renegades. She has played 50 ODI’s and 47 T20’s for the Women’s Protea team. Her fifty ODI’s have seen her make 712 runs at a strike rate of 56.55. Dane’s highest score of 90* in the T20’s and a total of 790 runs puts her strike rate at 81.61. van Niekerk has taken 76 ODI wickets with best bowling figures of 5/17. In her 47 T20 matches she has best bowling figures of 4/17.

Marizanne will be playing for the Sydney Sixes and also has an impressive international career having played 46 ODI’s and 40 T20’s. She has a strike rate of 60.81 in the ODI’s with a high score of 102*. An impressive strike rate of 94.39 in the T20’s has seen Kapp twice win the coveted SA Women’s Cricketer of the year in 2013 and 2014. With best bowling figures of 4/6 in T20’s and 4/21 in the ODI’s she is sure to make an impression in Australia.
