The Daku, Soweto-On-Sea and KwaMagxaki Community Halls were packed yesterday as the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality took its revised Integrated Development Plan and Budget for 2011/12 financial year more ward clusters.
The residents of wards 19 to 24, 25 to 29, as well as 30 and 33 turned up in droves to give their input in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s IDP and Budget consultation sessions on Tuesday, 10 May, at Daku, Soweto-On-Sea and KwaMagxaki Community Halls.
The halls were packed with eager residents who listened intently to Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Cllr Zanoxolo Wayile, and senior political leaders giving an overview of the Draft 2011/12 Integrated Development Plan and Budget of the Municipality.
While communities commended the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality for its 80/20 split of the budget that is biased towards relatively disadvantaged wards and the evident infrastructure and housing changes in their houses, concern was expressed regarding some of the challenges the communities were facing.
The issues raised by the residents include problems of illegal dumping, housing for backyard dwellers, need for new or additional recreational and sport facilities, paving, township beautification, overflowing drains, scarcity of electricity vending machines, housing and rectification of houses with defets. The communities were pleased to know that these were accommodated in the proposed capital and operational budget for the ensuing financial year and the medium-term.
Community members expressed their thanks and gratitude to the political leadership for being afforded the opportunity to provide input toward the Budget.
The IDP and Budget consultation sessions are in accordance with the local government Municipal Systems Act 2000 ahead of the passing of the 2011/12 Budget in Council on 31 May.
All residents of Nelson Mandela Bay are invited to participate in these sessions and make a meaningful contribution to the review of the Draft IDP (10th Edition) and Draft Budget in order to improve development and service delivery in their respective wards.
