Dear Taxi Miscreant

10 February 2014 By Alan Straton

Your actions this morning went and spoilt a marvelous day for myself and six other persons but a shark will probably thank you.

I have been itching to go shark tagging with Malcolm Smale for a while now and received the invite this past weekend to join him today, on Morven Maclean’s duck Blue Pearl.

In anticipation of being at sea the whole day today I specially made home made bread and ham, caught up on a lot of work all through Sunday, scheduled articles to be published during the day on various sites and made sure that all my recording equipment was clean and charged. The thought of being able to video sharks under the water and then on the side of the boat had me up early this morning with excitement.

I was the first to arrive at the harbour, well before the appointed launch time of 7:00 am, and tried to phone Morven to check if I could do anything for him whilst waiting – now Morven is a bit of a legend and kindered spirit as his voice message directs you to not bother leaving a message ……..

In the interim, Malcolm and the rest of his crew arrived – all well prepared for a hot and yet rewarding day of work in the sun.

Come 7:20 am we were a little concerned as Morven had not arrived after indicating he had left for the harbour at 6:00 am. We then received a call from Mandy (Morven’s wife) that a taxi had ridden into the stern of Blue Pearl and then promptly skedaddled – Morven was unable to get the registration number of the criminal and our trip to tag sharks had been cancelled.

I find myself pretty incensed at this farging miscreant that failed to stop as not only has he once again brought his industry into disrepute but he has also managed to:

  • scupper a full day of important scientific research,
  • mess up the days of 7 busy people and
  • make me and everyone else despair for mankind’s morals.

If you were in the taxi or witnessed the accident please do the right thing and come forward. Morven is such a stand up guy I am sure that he would accept an apology and call it quits – please don’t be the one that makes more people hate taxi’s!

One other thought: Just thinking of all the passengers who didn’t make the driver stop also dribbles on my battery ……
