The busy Buffelsfonteign Road in Walmer has been re-opened while maintenance work continues along the sides. Under a normal maintenance schedule, it would have taken two weeks for the road to be reopened but, thanks to the contractor who heeded the call to fast-track the project, the road is ready to be reopened. The contractor worked long into the night for a number of days. We thank the dedication and patriotic spirit showed by their workers.
A big culvert collapsed on the road last Friday, causing significant disruptions to traffic. The road was closed at the Swift and 10th Avenue intersections on Friday to prevent further congestion and allow for road maintenance works to start immediately. From the western side traffic was redirected to Swift Road through to Sparrow Avenue and via 10 Avenue from the eastern side.
The problem has been attributed to ageing infrastructure which came under severe pressure during the recent rains.
