Nelson Mandela Bay is hosting a hive of exciting activities as part of Armed Forces Week ending on 21 February.

The first day of exhibitions proved to be highly successful for the organisers of this year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations, with crowds in their thousands lining up to get a closer look at the military sea vessels on display at the Nelson Mandela Bay Harbour (Quay 2 & 3) on 13 February 2016.

Gates opened at 10am, where members of the public had already queued in their numbers to enter the exhibition area, showcasing the navy’s capability and hardware.

Members of the public were given guided group tours by the navy personnel, who were friendly, helpful and polite. The towering ships that were on display to the public were: SAS Drakensberg, SAS Amatola, SAS Protea and the crowd favourite of the day, the SAS Queen Modjadji Submarine.

For the organisers, NMBM and the Department of Defence, it was a great pleasure to see the influx of people and activity brought to the NMB Harbour. The first day of celebrations set a positive tone for the Armed Forces Week celebrations in store.

Officials and Organisers of the event continue to urge the public to support the rest of the activities in store for the week ahead, as they did today.

The residents of Nelson Mandela Bay can look forward to an array of mind blowing exhibitions and military capability demonstrations in store, with the highly anticipated night battle demonstration set to light up our skies on Thursday, 18 February 2016 at Kings Beach and the huge Armed Forces Day parade on 21 February 2016, that will pass through the main roads of Humewood and Summerstrand.

Career exhibitions for those who wish to serve our country and start a career in the Defence Force will be available throughout the Armed Forces Week.
