Another boat capsizes on Swartkops River

Justin Erasmus, NSRI Port Elizabeth deputy station commander, said; “At 10h15 NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a small 3 meter river boat capsized on the Swartkops River Mouth with 4 males onboard who had been thrown into the water when their boat capsized.

“They had been fishing at the river mouth in an outgoing tide which, from the force of the outgoing tide, apparently dragged their anchor, sweeping them into the mouth of the river where they capsized.

“Our NSRI volunteer sea rescue duty crew prepared to launch our sea rescue craft while NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene. Police, Coastal Rescue and Guardmed ambulance services also responded.

“On arrival on-scene we found all four local males had managed to swim safely ashore and they are not injured. Their boat has now also washed ashore and our NSRI rescue vehicle has been dispatched to assist them to recover their boat.”
