Annette and Isabella’s big IPTS Adventure

Some people have Mothers on pension, I have a Mother on an adventure break.

Game to go sailing, game to drive to Port Alfred to watch my son rowing, game to break her ankle, game to transport the ‘Old People’ to church, plays and the shops.

Her latest adventure was to test drive the IPTS bus system for MyPE and travel from Admiralty Way in Summerstrand to Greenacres and back on our new IPTS buses that no-one seems to be using to full capacity.

Annette set off yesterday at 10:00 am with her good friend and adventurer in training, Isabella – the other oldies chickened out, leaving our two to fend for themselves.

Mother dear reported back this morning that the IPTS adventure was an unqualified success.

She summed their journey up thus:

  • R5.00 each per ticket (pensioners rate) to travel on two different buses from Summerstrand to Greenacres.
  • Very helpful bus driver, conductor and very chilled (read sleeping) security guard.
  • No problems passing through the IPTS lanes at all.
  • Very clean buses.
  • Easy entry and exit via the purpose built platforms.
  • 45 minutes to walk from the Coffee Shop in Greenacres, get on an IPTS bus and to walk to her front door from Admiralty Way.
  • Buses every 15 minutes.
  • Didn’t feel unsafe or threatened at all.

The route to Greenacres was along the beachfront, along Govan Mbeki, up Harrower Road and up Kempston, down Cape, left at Greenacres Hospital, left at Virgin Active to Kempston Road and back down.

Asked if she would use the IPTS bus regularly, Mother dearest indicated; “Definitely”

“I think that every pensioner should take advantage of the IPTS buses to travel, R5.00 is an absolute bargain, even if one travels to the Boardwalk or Kings Beach”, is how my ancient adventurer summed her IPTS adventure up.

And now we pause for the London Sister to read this and have a minor heart flurry thinking about the dangers in Darkest Africa!

  1. So here’s a question, why no Uitenhage/Despatch/PE route? I would love yo leave my car at home as the IPTS stops are close enough to home and work to make them viable.

    • According to Municipal Spokesman, Kupido Baron; “There is currently a Uitenhage route. More routes will definitely follow.”
