Advocate Sonwabile Mangcotywa, Chief Executive of the National Heritage Council, is expected to reflect on the historical significance of the Langa Massacre from a national perspective at a Memorial Lecture to be held at the Babs Madlakane Hall (KwaNobuhle) tomorrow from 5pm.
The Memorial Lecture, a build-up event to the Human Rights Commemoration in Uitenhage on Friday, 21 March, tribute to the victims of the massacre (the departed and their families) for their role in breaking the stranglehold of Apartheid on its people.
Some of the intentions behind the Memorial Lecture are to create more awareness and highlight the significance of this historic event, lobby support and recognition of the Uitenhage massacre to be commemorated and celebrated at provincial and national level, and to harness support from all relevant partners to mobilize resources to improve the sites linked to the Uitenhage massacre.
Struggle veteran Executive Mayor Benson Fihla, affectionately known as Oom Ben, and Deputy Executive Mayor Thando Ngcolomba are also scheduled to grace the programme with their input.
