Weather Guru Garth Sampson puts the recent rainfall in perspective saying that the rainfall models were spot on this time with 20-30 mm plus in places.

Rainfall Figures:

  • Avontuur 20 mm, De Hoop Uniondale (Bo Kouga) 18mm and Joubertina 29 mm all flow to Kouga Dam.
  • Kareedouw 24 mm goes to Churchill, then Impofu if it overflows.
  • Willowmore 15 mm and Cambria (25 mm till 8pm last night) is an indication of what is happening in Baviaans, part of which flows into Kouga.
  • Stuurmans 32mm is in the heart of Kouga.
  • Patensie 23 mm (SAWS) to 40 mm (GIB) and Kouga 37 mm are at the dam area

WE WILL ONLY KNOW INFLUENCE ON DAM LEVELS ON MONDAY, WHEN WATER HAS FLOWED INTO THE DAMS FROM THE UPPER CATCHMENT.

Sampson says that he is hoping for a few percent rise in dam levels, which will push day zero forward.

Sampson clarifies this by saying; “HOWEVER we are not out of the woods yet, but have been given some breathing space, so other augmentation schemes come online, such as the boreholes and other.”

Models show more rain until tomorrow early morning and then it looks dry for next 10 days.
