1500 Pupils to Receive School Shoes and Stationery

24 March 2011 By Alan Straton

The Uitenhage Despatch Development Initiative (UDDI) is rolling out its Back-to-School campaign on Monday 28 March 2011 in Despatch. Nomathamsanqa Combined School will be the first stop for this campaign, where 300 disadvantaged pupils will receive school shoes and stationery. Spec- savers EC, have also come on board and will be eye testing the pupils and issuing free spectacles to those that require. This 2 day campaign is focusing on the 5 most disadvantaged schools in the Uitenhage and Despatch area.

Although the pupils started the year without the necessary tools to experience education properly, soon 1500 disadvantaged children will be going to school with school shoes, which were donated by the Lupi Ngcayisa Foundation. About 550 of those children will each have their own rulers, sharpeners, pens, pencils, erasers and A4 examination pads, thanks to C-Track vehicle tracking and fleet management company, which contributed to 550 stationery packs.

The UDDI Back-to-School Campaign was launched in 2009 to encourage education in South Africa and even more so in the Eastern Cape, by supplying a basic stationery for each child. The UDDI managed early in 2010 to help 100 children from five schools in the district to go to school with school shoes and stationery and by the end of the year reached out to 500 children.

On Tuesady, the second day of the campaign, the following schools will benefit; Ilinge Primary (Kwa Langa), RH Godlo Primary (KwaNobuhle), Pindibuye Primary (Khayelitsha) and Mngcunube Primary School (KwaNobuhle).

Through donations from corporate and individuals this campaign has been a success and the UDDI is proud to be associated with all those donors and the UDDI thanks all sponsors.
