Zwartkops River and Estuary E Coli Levels

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is tasked with measuring the E Coli Levels at 13 designated points along the Zwartkops River. The accepted E Coli levels for all forms of water recreation is a reading equal to or less than 130 parts per million.

These measurement points are: (Click on each point to see the E Coli exception readings)

  2. Swartkops
  3. Brickfields
  4. Motherwell Canal
  5. Redhouse
  6. Perseverance
  7. Perserverance Upper
  8. Despatch
  9. Kelvin Jones
  10. Frans Klaasen
  11. KwaNobuhle
  12. Niven Bridge
  13. Bulmers Drive

One can assume that the safer spots to utilise are those with the LEAST number of readings above 130 parts per million.

BUT, that is on the assumption that readings are consistently taken at each of the 13 spots regularly on the same day!

The charts below highlight ONLY the dates on which the E Coli levels exceeded 130 parts per million – from data provided by the municipality to the Zwartkops Conservancy:
