If you ever saw the MTN Gladiators television show, you would not likely have missed the hulking tower of muscle named Granite. This Tuesday you can meet him in person and laugh at his comedic antics, if you’re brave enough!
Garth Collins will be traveling from Johannesburg for a guest spot on the Whose Line PE team as they Improvise scenes and challenges directed by the audience, to hilarious effect. Collins has forged a successful acting career since his days on Gladiators, having appeared in local productions like Villa Rosa, Kompleks and Getroud Met Rugby and international series like Black Sails, a pirate story which is a prequel to Treasure Island. He has also worked with big name Hollywood actors including Lou Diamond Phillips and Steven Seagal.
Many fans of his tough guy persona are not aware that he is also an experienced stand-up comedian. Collins’s stature works for him as audiences respond to a tough looking guy being willing to laugh at himself and life in general.
PE based Actor and Comedian Roland Gaspar, creator of the Whose Line PE Crew said the show is doing well and gaining momentum, “We have had consistently good audience attendance. One week it will be students taking a break from their academics, another it will be tourists having a night out and more recently we’ve become known as the place to bring birthday parties. We’ve had four birthday groups and the show has only been going for 8 weeks!”
According to Gaspar this is the first of many celeb guest editions of the Whose Line PE show, “Watch this space – so many people I’ve chatted to in the TV industry are keen to come down for the show. Now it’s just a matter of time and logistics. PE audiences are already enjoying the show, but this is only the beginning.”
Since the launch of the “Whose Line at the Music Kitchen” Comedy Improv show on 3 February this year, it has been a popular entertainment option on Tuesday nights.
The show features Actors, Cabaret performers and Comedians from the area. Recently local celeb Charlton Tobias from AlgoaFM was guest performer and his impromptu interpretation of random songs saw him winning the “Lip Sync Challenge” with evidence of his exploits being loaded to YouTube.
Bookings can be made with The Music Kitchen on 041-364-1964 or enquiries emailed to whoseline@rolandg.co.za
