The MBDA “Wish You Were Here” exhibition opens, after 5 months planning and preparation by 68 participating artists, at the Athenaeum, Belmont Terrace, Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday 19 September at 18:30.
The exhibition launch is to coincide with Heritage Day on 24 September and Heritage/Tourism month.
The exhibition comprises 90 art works including 35 works that form the “Selectors Choice” exhibition. The generosity of principal sponsors will provide R31,200 in “Sponsors Selection Awards”. 18 of the participating artists, whose works have been nominated by the principal sponsors, will receive the Sponsors Awards.
The exhibition will remain open until 17 October at the Athenaeum, after which, the “Selectors Choice” exhibition will travel to specific high-density Nelson Mandela Bay centres. A Catalogue of the “Selectors Choice” exhibition will be made available at the opening of the first satellite exhibition at Moffat on Main Lifestyle Centre on Saturday 25 October.

It is a coordinated effort between private sector members of the NMB artistic community (Bretten-Ann Moolman, Cedric Vanderlinden, Anthony Harris, Robyn Sharwood, Asanda Mlata and the NMB Business Community as well as two prominent public sector entities – BASA and ACT), with the goal of promoting both NMB and its visual artists.
Wish You Were Here was made possible by generous principal sponsors: Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), Business and Arts South Africa (BASA), Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) and Nedbank Arts Affinity, Baywest Mall, Underculture Contemporary, Genergy and ART Events.
Secondary sponsors that donated their exceptional expertise and business acumen to make this one of the most successful partnerships between the Arts and Businesses in the history of the visual arts in NMB are: Alliance Francaise, Amperstand, ART on Target, artEC, Arts Journey – NMB, Athenaeum, Best of the Bay – GO Guide, Boardwalk, Boomtown, GFI Art Gallery, Institut Francais, Moffet on Main Lifestyle Centre, NMB Business Chamber, NMMU Alumni, Radisson Blu Hotel, The Soapbox, Vinimark and Walker Digital.
