WTF Julius Me-Enema?

So there I was in front of the big screen, drinking Johnny, eating Sushi, wearing my Springbok Makarapa and green Amaboko jersey cheering my heroes – Siya, Ox, Bongi, Elizabeth, Handre, Cheslin and the others as they showed the rest of the world just how powerful we as a nation are when it comes to rugby and nation building.

As the Springboks closed out the 2023 Rugby World Cup with a nail biting win against the All Blacks I thought; “That is it,” as I put half my monthly salary aside to buy aeroplane tickets, accommodation and tickets to every game in the 2027 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia from 1 October to 13 November 2027.

What a lovely feeling to be alive, South African and able to travel the world without restrictions nor concerns about how to finance my lifestyle.

And then on Saturday 5 November 2023 I proudly put my red beret and overall on and hastened to attend my chosen political party’s rally at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. “Who doesn’t love the smell of a Malema in the stadium?”

Just as I was telling this very pretty girl in braids, smelling of Coco Chanel with the most divine accent mixing Upper Class Oxford English, Upper East Side New York and melodic isiXhosa, about my plans for 2027 my intention to ask her to accompany me to the next Rugby World Cup were shattered, ground into the very dirt that used to witness apartheid rugby bullies sweat and bleed on.

Yes, you guessed it, my hero, my firebrand, the one I would die for said; “Why are we being forced to salute the emblem that was saluted by Malan, salute the emblem that was saluted by Botha by Verwoed, by De Klerk, by murderers who were killing our people wearing the same jersey in celebration of butchering black people? That emblem and that jersey represent white supremacists that we don’t support.”

“Fuck,” I thought – followed immediately by a crazy notion that has taken root and now threatens to become a crusade.

And that thought? Resign from this crazy party that wants to destroy the very game that has made us all join hands in harmony and unity and finally made us proud.

Alan: This is how I imagine an EFF Rugby Supporter would react to the ‘news’ that it is now – according to Julius Malema – shameful to cheer for the Springboks!
