World’s Most Expensive Hot Dog – Come On City of Champions

The price may be eye-watering but it does make me think that maybe we (The Nelson Mandela Bay City of Champions) should be making the World’s Most Expensive Boerewors Roll?


The World’s Most Expensive Hot Dog maybe but what about Port Elizabeth’s local chefs challenging for the World’s Most Expensive Boerewors Roll or how about the World’s Most Expensive Calamari Burger or World’s Most Expensive Smiley as a City of Champions initiative?

After all we are the City of Champions with World Records such as:

Longest Gumboot Dance – 24 May 2015: Bay Cultural and Gumboot Dancers broke the record for the Longest Gumboot Dance in celebration of Africa Month. This was a new world record in May 2015. Venue: Dan Qeqe Stadium, Zwide, Nelson Mandela Bay. Record Time: 10;43;54 minutes (New Record) . World Record Body : The Record Setter .

Largest Group of People Playing The Hand Clap Game – 25 May 2015: A proudly South African game played by a selected group of learners in celebration of Africa Month. This game is known as Byshoza and is popular in the African nationalities in SA. Venue: W.B Tshume Primary School, Kwazakhele, Nelson Mandela Bay Record Total: 210 participants (New Record) World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Largest Group Forming Madiba 46664 – 25 May 2015: 26 children playing the hand clap game forming the number 46664. This is the prison number of our fomer President, Nelson Mandela. Venue: W.B Tshume Primary School, Kwazakhele, Nelson Mandela Bay Record Total: 26 participants (New Record) World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Longest Chain Clap with One Hand – 13 June 2015: After the Youth Challenge 5&10km, various residents from the NMB gathered in a circle to form a chain, symbolising unity. Venue: Dan Qeqe Stadium, Zwide, Nelson Mandela Bay Previous Record Total: 68 claps New Record total: 119 claps World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Largest Group of People doing the Nae Nae Dance – 13 June 2016: In celebration of Youth Month. A total of 47 youth participated in the Nae Nae dance. Venue: Dan Qeqe Stadium, Zwide, Nelson Mandela Bay Record Total: 47 Participants (New Record) World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Largest Lap Circle – 10 August 2015: In celebration of Women’s day in August 2015, the Diva Run was open to all women in the NMB. This world record symbolises women supporting each other. Venue: NMMU 2nd Avenue Campus, Nelson Mandela Bay Previous Record Total: 88 participants New Record Total: 110 Participants World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Fastest Backwards 45-Meter Run – 17 August 2015: Fastest runner backwards for the distance of 45 – meters Venue: Strelitzia High School, Uitenhage Previous Record Time: 13,18 seconds New Record Time: 8.60 seconds World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Most Consecutive Rope Jumps with One Leg – 29 August 2015: Most jumps by one person on one leg consecutively with the use of a skipping rope. Venue: Bluewater Bay Lifesaving Club, Bluewater Bay, Nelson Mandela Bay. Previous World Record Total: 82 jumps. New Record Total: 237 jumps. World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Longest Rugby Game – 30 October 2015: This was a 27 hour long non-stop rugby game played by two teams known as Ezee Fana Club and Camagu Rugby Club. Venue: Dan Qeqe Stadium, Zwide, Nelson Mandela Bay Previous Record Time: 25hr 59min 47sec New Record Time: 27hr 02min 52 sec World Record Body : The Record Setter.

Still to be ratified is the world record for the most consecutive penalties which was broken on 12 November 2016 with 2 255 penalties at he Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The City of Champions initiative seeks to have 27 World Records held by the city and residents by July 2017.
