World Surf League Championship Will Return to J-Bay in 2025

15 October 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) proudly welcomes the announcement that Jeffreys Bay, within the DA-led Kouga Municipality, will once again be hosting a leg of the 2025 World Surf League (WSL) Championship from the 11th to the 20th of July 2025. This prestigious event reconfirms the world-class status of Jeffreys Bay as a top surfing destination while highlighting the municipality’s commitment to good governance, sound service delivery, and economic development.

The 2025 World Surf League tour will provide much-needed opportunities for local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, retail shops, and transport services. The increased visitor numbers will generate significant revenue and create temporary employment in various sectors, such as hospitality, security, and event management.

While these jobs may be temporary, the lasting exposure from global media coverage positions Jeffreys Bay for sustained business growth, bringing long-term opportunities for the local community.

The influx of visitors will also enhance the region’s tourism profile, with spectators filling local accommodations and enjoying Kouga’s many attractions. The global spotlight on Jeffreys Bay as a prime destination will also help draw future tourists, ensuring ongoing economic benefits well past the event.

This achievement can be attributed to the DA-led Kouga Municipality’s commitment to effective governance. By ensuring reliable service delivery, maintaining infrastructure, and practising responsible financial management, Kouga has become a place where local residents and international investors are confident.

The DA believes that where governments work efficiently, opportunities follow, and Kouga’s success in re-securing this major event is evidence of that.

The DA congratulates the Kouga Municipality and the people of Jeffreys Bay on this remarkable accomplishment. The 2025 World Surf League will leave a lasting legacy of growth and opportunity, and we look forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure its success.

The DA will continue to promote good governance and economic development, bringing positive change to the people of Kouga and the Eastern Cape.

Regards

Dr Vicky Knoetze MPL
DA Leader of the Official Opposition in the Eastern Cape Legislature
