We ate for the earth

Last night, a dinner was hosted in support for Soil for Life, to create awareness of food insecurity in South Africa and to promote the growing of food to grow people and communities.

Encouraging people to host meals in support for Eat for Earth on World Environment Day, Deirdre Elphick-Moore hosted her own dinner with like-minded individuals who are influencers in their profession and community. Using vegetables, grown from her own garden and purchased locally through Organic Footprints, the table décor also came from Deirdre’s own garden, with guests taking home their own rocket seeds to start their own veggie garden.

“Food security means all people, at all times, have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life. Soil for life is an enabler for this, it is a fantastic organisation that equips people in some of South Africa’s poorest areas with skills and resources to grow their own food.” Commented Deirdre.

There are so many ways that people from Algoa country can back efforts like those driven by Soil for Life. You can support local businesses, like Organic Footprints that source ethically grown, organic produce from our region, start community growing projects, get children involved so that they too can learn the importance of looking after and harvesting from the earth.
