The Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality recently published (12 July 2016) an advert for 16 Senior Superintendent positions in the Metro Police (Grade 17: R568 044 to R789 744 per annum)
With reference to the cost to ratepayers of the Metro Police Force we recently did an exercise HERE and now add to that with the figures from this latest recruitment advert.
Assume that each Senior Superintendent is awarded an average salary of R690 000.00 per annum – this amounts to R11 040 000.00 per annum in salary costs for all 16 employees.
Now assume a multiple of 1.8 for benefits and employee costs and the number jumps to R19 872 000.40 cost to ratepayer per annum.
Combining known recruitment numbers for the Metro Police the bottom line NOW looks like this:
REVENUE:
- Budgeted fines collections: R242 441 000.00
HR COSTS:
- Metro Police Directors: R17 280 000.00
- Metro Police Sergeants: R40 950 000.00
- Metro Police Constables: R170 280 000.00
- Metro Police Senior Superintendents: R11 040 000.00
- HR Costs Total to Date: R239 550 000.00
Expected Surplus: R2 891 000.00 *
* Please note: The above figures are only based on published figures and fail to include support, infrastructure and other items. Also some questions remain about the 19 fold increase in the budgeted fines collections.
