1. INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN WARD COMMITTEE ELECTION IN NELSON MANDELA BAY
Please note that Ward 9 Ward committee election will take place at Linton Grange Library on the 21st June 2017 between 09:00 – 18:00.
10 People will be elected to serve on the committee.
Please participate by visiting the library between the times mentioned above to cast your vote.
2. ELECTRICITY OUTAGE
Please note that the electricity outage has been postponed from 25th June 2017 to the 02nd July 2017
When: Sunday, 02nd July 2017.
Where: Ditchling 66kV substation.
Time: 08H00 – 17H00
Reason: Emergency repairs to Kragga Kamma 1tee transfer bars
A large part of Port Elizabeth will be affected.
Areas affected will include:
Algoa Park; Cradock Place; Young Park, Gelvan Park, Parkside, Springdale, Gelvandale, Helenvale, Malabar, section of Korsten, Neave Township, Marais Township, Sydenham, Sidwell, Adcockvale, Essexvale, Vikingvale, section of Kabega Park, Kragga Kamma, Sunridge Park, Fernglen, Framesby, Westering, Linton Grange, Morningside, Brymore, Vergelegen, Mangold Park, Walmer Downs, Charlo, Springfield, Greenfields, section of Overbaakens, Greenshields Park, section of Walmer, Walmer Old Age Home
All supplies to be treated as live for the duration of both outages.
3. SPEED CHECKS IN WARD 9
We have received the following from the Traffic Department with regards to the above:
Speed checks – Cosmos Street, Westering
Please be advised that speed checking was done in Cosmos Street on the 08/06/2017 from 06:45 to 10:00.
The highest speed was 74km/h with 4 prosecutions.
Please forward any street that you would like the Metro to monitor in our ward.

5. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS WITH BOREHOLE
In terms of Clause 141 of the National Water Act (Act No. 36 of 1998) and in terms ofClause 83 of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Bylaw (2010), property owners are required to notify the Municipality of the existence of a borehole(s) on their property. Failure to provide the required information by 31 July 2017 will constitute an offense in terms of municipal Bylaw.
As per aforementioned Clause 83, property owners with borehole(s) are required to provide the following information:
- Full name and surname
- Municipal account number
- Physical address and name of owner of the borehole
- Coordinates of the borehole
- Yield of the borehole (if known)
- Depth of the borehole
- Casing depth and casing material
- Depth of water level
- Name of borehole driller and drilling log

6. ANTI-FRAUD AND ANTI-CORRUPTION HOTLINE INTRODUCED

7. BAY MUNICIPALITY’S RULES AND ETHICS COMMITTEE NOT JUST POLICEMAN FOR COUNCILLORS
“Cllr Jonathan Lawack, Speaker of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Council, said the newly established Rules and Ethics Committee should not just be considered as a policeman for Councillors but also as an important instrument to improve the workings of the local legislature.
“Yes, this committee will hold all Councillors responsible for adherence to the Code of Conduct for Councillors, including myself, Executive Mayor Athol Trollip as well as the rest of the 120 lawmakers represented in Council.
“This is most important to ensure accountability and transparency. However, it is also critical that this structure will be duty bound to annually review the rules pertained in the Council’s Rules of Order and to report directly to Council regarding its findings,” Speaker Lawack said.
Established in accordance with Section 79 of the Local Government Municipal Structures Act, the Rules and Ethics Committee, has nine members fairly representing parties in Council, with Councillor Andy Jordan (DA) as its Chairperson.
“Previously the Speaker’s Office was solely responsible for dealing with disciplinary matters where Councillors were involved. I will still investigate complaints and send my findings to the Rules and Ethics Committee for further deliberations and sanctions, but this body now ultimately has the powers to deal with these matters,” Councillor Lawack added.
Jordan presides while assisted by Cllr Maki Feni (ANC), Cllr Lance Grootboom (ACDP), Cllr Leander Kruger (DA), Cllr Buyelwa Mafaya (ANC), Cllr Lukhanyo Mrara (EFF), Cllr Koleka Ngumbela (DA), Cllr Morné Steyn (DA) and one representative from the minority parties.
The establishment of the Rules and Ethics Committee was first approved by Council on 30 March this year and the Terms of Reference for the structure was approved at a full sitting last week (14 June).
The first sitting of the Rules and Ethics Committee took place on 16 May.

The strike is over.
Waste management staff have indicated that they will return to work today, after a final letter of ultimatum was sent to them.
Thus, our final offer of 8 hours pay with 1 hour unpaid lunch has been accepted, and the condition of ablution and dining facilities has been approved.
If today’s rounds are not conducted in an acceptable and comprehensive manner, the relevant staff will be summarily dismissed.
All areas listed below “Thursday” will be serviced today – please place bags and bins on the verge.

11. THANK YOU TO THE RESIDENTS OF WARD 9
During this period of the “go-slow/strike” we want to thank each and every resident who assisted by taking there refuse bags to the transfer stations and for your patience during this time.
Furthermore, we want to say a special thank you to Bradbury Protection service situated in Framesby who removed all the refuse bags in Framesby.
