WARD 9 RESULTS DURING 2011 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION
Herewith some results for Ward 9 as received from the IEC:
- Total Valid Votes: 7 761
- Valid votes for Candidate: 7 289
- % Total valid votes: 93,92 %
- Winning Margin: 6,998
Herewith part of a press statement issued by Mr Leon de Villiers, DA Caucus Leader in NMBM:
” … We are delighted with the huge growth we have experienced, up from 24% in 2006 to 40% in 2011. We will now have 18 more DA councillors in this metro which increases from 30 to 48. This growth has taken place in every community across the metro. We have shown that we can win in key ANC wards and we have increased our ward tally from 17 to 26, which is substantial growth. The DA is in a stronger position than ever to hold them accountable for service delivery failures. If they continue to fail, the platform has been built to win the metro next time round. This is a win-win situation for the voters as the narrower the majority the greater the pressure on the governing party to improve service delivery…”
I am happy to announce that Bernice Wright, our current DA Ward 9 Branch Chairperson has also been elected as PR Councillor.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE HELPERS/VOLUNTEERS/VOTERS
I want to thank all my voters, helpers/volunteers for their hard work during the election period and specifically on election day. Without you the above results would not have been possible. Thanks to each and everyone who sent e-mails, letters, etc. of congratulations on the DA’s success. Once again it is highly appreciated.
COUNCILLOR’S LAPTOP OUT OF ORDER
I have been experiencing problems with my e-mail system since Friday, 3 June 2011. At present my laptop is currently being worked on. WASTE PAPER PROJECT OPPOSITE SUNRIDGE VILLAGE
I would like to support the following request from one of our residents, Ms Yvette Erasmus: ” …We would like everyone to support our “Orange Igloo” waste paper project opposite Sunridge Village. All you have to do is feed the igloo with paper, cardboard, old newspapers, old magazines & even old telephone directories. The proceeds of the funds go to “the children’s feeding fund”.
The same project is in Walmer @ the library…”
PLEA FROM ANIMAL ANTI-CRUELTY LEAGUE PE
I received the following e-mail from Linda-Louise Swain of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League PE:
” …With the current disaster flood zones, we are anticipating a huge influx of animals and there is a beyond-dire need for kennels. We have pallets at our centre, but urgently need people to help us turn them into rudimentary kennels – any form of shelter for these poor animals. If there is anyone out there who can spare a few hours and bring along a hammer, nails, saw, please let us know as soon as possible.
Our fieldworkers are currently out in the areas, looking for animals that are chained and unable to escape the floodwaters. They will identify all homes that require shelters. We obviously need as many extra blankets and as much extra food as possible, as the situation in these low-lying Northern areas is devastating. I have already spoken to Dog Control and if necessary, we can construct some extra shelters at the Pound, for cases where homes have been washed away and animals are in need. Fencing, poles, any building materials that can be donated, would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be dropped at the Bargain Box Shop, 9th Avenue, Walmer. Any kennel-builders – please could you ‘phone Jerry at our Centre, so that we can arrange this. 041 456 1776…”
LOCAL FLOODING
Due to the heavy rains of the past couple of days, the potential threat for localised flooding poses a huge risk to all those in low lying areas and known flood “hot-spots”.
If you have major problems, contact the Metro emergency number 041 – 585 1555 or the Service Delivery Joint Operations Centre on 0800 20 50 50.
