Urgent report requested for Newton Park Swimming Pool

17 April 2013 By Port Elizabethan

It is beyond doubt that this incident is a direct result of equipment failure. What we need to know is why the equipment failed in order to prevent future incidents of this nature from occurring.

Whether or not we will be able to rescue the damage done to the city’s reputation as a water sports destination is another matter.

I have today written to the Chairperson of the Sports Arts Recreation and Culture committee requesting an urgent report to be tabled at our meeting next week.

I have requested that the report include as much technical information as possible including maintenance reports and schedules as well as a breakdown of both the operational and capital budget for the Newton Park swimming pool.

The DA will strive to keep the public informed of the situation, as we continue in our efforts to keep the municipality accountable.

Regards

Andrew Whitfield
