The Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has joined regional radio station Algoa FM in bringing the Christmas spirit to underprivileged children in Port Elizabeth by donating funds to support a KICK Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Walmer.
The Ikamva ECD Centre serves as a crèche and learning facility for 38 children, aged from 4 months to 9 years old, in the Gqebera (Walmer) Township.
The donation will be used to build much-needed toilet facilities for the crèche, following the recent completion of two classrooms funded by KICK. FMCSA also sponsored tasty meals, Christmas hats and goodie bags for all of the children, in conjunction with Algoa FM’s fun-filled Christmas party for the facility as part of its regular CSI initiatives.
With popular Algoa FM presenters Carol-Ann Kelleher, Lauren Mungur and Drew Serfontein in attendance, each child received a Christmas hamper comprising toys, clothing and shoes, all of which were gratefully received by the children and teachers who were delighted at experiencing the centre’s first Christmas party.
“It is fantastic to join forces with committed, people-oriented organizations such as KICK, and see the meaningful impact it has on local communities,” says Alisea Chetty, Corporate Communications Manager at FMCSA.
“The funds will help improve the level of caring and education for the children, and assist with the upliftment of the broader community.”
According to KICK CEO Lauren Stretch, the registered non-profit organization (NPO) was formed in 2006 with a vision to impact the lives of children in South Africa.
“Our aim is to unite the young children, equipping and empowering them to have the confidence and authority to believe that they can make a difference in our nation,” she says.
“We support early childhood development centres that make an impact on the community and are sustainable. The organization puts a lot of focus on training the teachers through our Early Inspiration program to better equip them in providing a solid educational foundation for these children.”
