At 16h18, Wednesday, 11th March, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV to rendezvous with the Turkish bulk carrier ship DENSA FLAMINGO, 1 nautical mile off-shore of the Port of Port Elizabeth, to patient evacuate an ill sailor suffering acute stomach cramps from unknown causes.
NSRI Port Elizabeth were notified by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) on Tuesday of the imminent arrival of the ship, which is sailing from India to South America.
It appears that the ill 33 year old Turkish sailor has been suffering stomach cramps since the 4th of February and with the pain not going away they made arrangements with South African Authorities to have him taken off the ship to be seen to by doctors as the ship passed by the South African coast.
On arrival on-scene the patient was transferred aboard the sea rescue craft and he has been brought safely ashore in a stable condition and the ships agents have transported him to doctors for further treatment.
