Time to Shed those Shoes

There will be suits, ties and bare feet in boardrooms across the Bay come this Thursday as the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and its Top 40 Under 40 Achievers lead the way with One Day Without Shoes.

International One Day Without Shoes is an initiative of the TOMS shoe company. This global initiative is designed to highlight the plight of children who have no shoes and who are exposed to daily dangers and health risks.

There are children right here in Nelson Mandela Bay who have no shoes, and business is leading the way by helping to get children the basics many take for granted. Between now and May 28, the Business Chamber, its Top 40 Achievers and other members, will be collecting new children’s school shoes and leisure shoes. These will be donated to the Protea Place of Safety and to needy schools around the Bay via the Community Chest.

How to get involved:

  • STEP ONE: Commit to observing One Day Without Shoes on Thursday in offices across Nelson Mandela Bay. Get your colleagues, employees, partners and suppliers on board.
  • STEP TWO: Collect as many new children’s shoes as you can, in all styles and in a variety of sizes.
  • STEP THREE: Go barefoot on One Day Without Shoes! Have fun, and take photos, but think about the kids for whom this is a way of life.
  • STEP FOUR: Deliver the shoes your company has collected to The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber based at 200 Norvic Drive, Greenacres, OR, the Barefoot Brigade will collect your shoes on One Day Without Shoes!
