Twitter these days offers a bit of a rollercoaster ride to it’s adherents.
After the acquisition of the platform by maverick South African born billionaire, Elon Musk, we have seen a wholesale discounting of the ‘value’ of the platform from the over $40 Billion in acquisition cost to some pundits now valuing Twitter at $14.6 Billion – chump change to some apparently!
Twitter basically built it’s insular audience by encouraging new sign ups to follow as many people as possible. Resulting in millions of people embarking on a quest to follow as many people as possible in the hope that the “FOLLOW BACK” principle would raise their personal numbers of followers. For some it worked and for others it did not. Some embarked on paid for campaigns that effectively BOUGHT followers.
Of course that led to Twitter Profile holders comparing follower size with each other with the follower count being the ONLY METRIC used to determine ‘appendage length’!
It is our contention that the ‘appendage length’ related to the strength of any Twitter account should be expressed as a percentage of Following/Follower:
- Currently Elon Musk (@elonmusk) has 143.2 Million followers on Twitter. He follows 329 people giving him a following to followers ratio of: 0.00022975
- In contrast the MyPE (@MyPE) Twitter Account has 6 917 followers and follows ZERO people giving @MyPE a following to followers ratio of: ZERO
In this case ZERO is a winner and anything more than that is second, third and last…..
As a very early adopter of the platform @MyPE set out to only provide Tweets pertinent to Gqeberha (first), SA (second), a promise to engage vigorously and reply when asked. Supporting these efferts @MyPE also provides highly targetted Twitterati Lists of all Twitter users based in or from Gqeberha.
