The Red Location Museum today hosts the launching of the 4th volume of ‘The Road to Democracy in South Africa’, a comprehensive compilation of the history of the liberation struggle in the 1980s. Local actiivists Janet Cherry and Pat Gibbs are the authors of two of the chapters in this volume.
Many local activists for the liberation of South Africa were interviewed you for this volume and are quoted in the book whilst others are mentioned in the context of particular stories or quoted from other interviews.
Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of NMMU, Derrick Swartz will give the keynote address and the Amabutho of Port Elizabeth will perform freedom songs of that era. Copies of the books will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served.
The event begins at 5.30 for 6:00 pm, Wednesday 30 August, Red Location Museum.
Janet says; “I am sure you are intrigued to see how your own history, and the history of that time, is presented. Please assist us in distributing this invitation to comrades on this list – as well as others who may be interested, but who have been omitted by error – as we do not have email addresses or contact numbers for everybody mentioned. This is a public event and all are welcome to attend.”
