The Most Important Local Government Election Yet

There has probably never been a more important local government election than the election of 2011.

If you are not happy with the way that this metro is currently being run, if you are tired of the state of our city, now is the time to change things. What can you do? Make sure that you are registered to vote in the area where you live so that you can vote for your candidate of choice.

Secondly, speak to all your friends, colleagues, acquaintances and get everyone to turn out and vote. For some obscure reason, general elections always turn out a far higher number of voters than municipal elections. For a change in local government, this has to change, everyone has to come and vote this time.

Remember, whilst national government controls the broader aspects of our lives via parliament, it is local,  Municipal government that is directly responsible for the quality of our everyday living. They are responsible for keeping the city clean, for fixing street lights, repairing potholes and collecting garbage.

If everybody votes, we can win and we can begin to govern our city in the same way that the DA has shown in Cape Town and the Western Cape.

In the last general election, the ANC only won 50.4% of all the votes in the metro. That’s 1.4% away from losing control of our metro.

So I appeal to all of you, register – spread the word and turn out to vote.

It’s time for change.

Warm regards
