The Difference between the USA and RSA

By

And, NO, it is not a case of two consonants difference….

The following observation is only based upon my impression and anecdotal evidence – the online world may differ!

Consider what South Africans do when one of their own excels:

First of all we check the name and surname to see if the person is male or female, Xhosa or Venda or Sotho or Afrikaans or English, White, Coloured or Black….
And then, based on our narrow interpretation of our community, do we decide whether to praise or deride.

The USA is also a country of ‘imports’, ‘exiles’ and ‘indigenous’ persons and, in my limited exposure have concluded that they have no such bias – choosing rather to celebrate ant one individual’s achievement as one benefiting the USA as a whole.

The day we unconsciously celebrate our citizen’s achievements without thought to our narrow view of our society is the day that we will have achieved one small step towards greatness.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
