Western Province on Friday continued their dominance in the Southern Amateur Provincial Championship (APPC) in Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape by defeating SWD 13-7 to defend their title. The Cape side registered a 28-19 victory against SWD in the 2013 final, and also won the title in 2012. There were heart stopping moments for 20 564 spectators at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Friday night in the EP Kings historical first game in the Premier Currie Cup competition in 12 years as they watched Western Province captain, Juan de Jongh, sail over the EP tryline in the second minute of the game. The first half of the clash between Western Province and Eastern Province proved to be epic, with the Port Elizabeth side taking a narrow 9-8 lead at half time. But the flood gates opened for WP after the break as they increasing their try tally to six to outscore the opposition by two tries. The Eastern Province Rugby Union has moved the game between the Eastern Province Kings and the Western Province from the Zwide Stadium to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University stadium.
