Stats SA says that Crime Levels have stabilised

While crime levels have stabilised, perceptions that crime is increasing persist, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. "The crime levels show that crime has stabilised, it is moving in a path where it has stabilised. CPI inflation rate up to 4.7%

The headline CPI annual inflation rate in June 2015 was 4.7%, Stats SA announced today. "This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 4.6% in May 2015," Stats SA said in a statement. "On average, prices increased by 0.4% between May 2015 and June 2015." The increase in the CPI will be important to note as the SA Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Committee meets this week to determine whether to increase the country's repo rate. PPI at 5.8% in January

South Africa's new headline producer Price Inflation was at 5.8% in January, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Tuesday. "The annual percentage change in the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final manufactured goods was 5.8% in January 2013. From December 2012 to January 2013 the PPI for final manufactured goods increased by 0.5%," said Stats SA. The January number slowed to 5.8% from a recalculated 6.3% in December 2012. GDP rises 2.1% in fourth quarter of 2012

South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 2.1% in the fourth quarter of 2012 - up from 1.2% in the third quarter, Statistics South Africa said on Tuesday. "The seasonally adjusted real GDP for the fourth quarter of 2012 increased at an annualised rate of 2.1%," said Gerhardt Bouwer, executive manager for national accounts at Stats SA. Retail trade sales up on expectations

Retail trade sales came in at 2.3% year-on-year in December 2012 from 3.6% in November, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. The market expectation was that it would slow down to 1.2% year-on-year in December. The main contributors to the higher-than-expected 2.3% were general dealers, retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods and all ‘other' retailers. Retail trade sales show 8.3% growth

The June Retail trade sales increased more than expected by 8.3% from an upwardly revised 7.1% in June, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said. Market expectation was that sales would rise by 4.7%. Textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods were at 16.4% as well as pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries were the major contributors to the increase, said Stats SA on Wednesday. CPI eases to 6% in March

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) eased to 6% in March, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. Expectation was that it would ease to 6%, off from 6.1% in February, which was above the Reserve Bank's inflation target of between 3% and 6. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) slowed to 6.1% in February, down from 6.3% in January, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said. Bloomberg consensus was that inflation would tick-up to 6.4% year-on-year. "On average, prices increased by 0.6% between January 2012 and February 2012," said Stats SA on Thursday. SA’s 4th Quarter GDP rises to 3.2%

South Africa's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of 2011 rose to 3.2%, says Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). January CPI rises above expectations

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) continued its upward trend, rising to 6.3% in January, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) announced on Wednesday. Market expectation was that it would rise to 6.2% from December's 6.1%. "On average, prices increased by 0.6% between December 2011 and January 2012," said Stats SA. Unemployment falls to 23.9%

South Africa's unemployment rate fell to 23.9% in the fourth quarter of 2011, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Tuesday. Releasing the Quarterly Labour Force Survey for the fourth quarter, Stats SA said the unemployment rate was down by 1.1% to 23.9% down from the third quarter's 25%. PPI Slows to 9.8%

The Producer Price Index (PPI) slowed to 9.8% year-on-year in December, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Thursday. "This rate is 0.3 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 10.1% in November 2011," said Stats SA. November Retail Trade Sales up by 6.8%

Retail trade sales in November grew by 6.8% year-on-year, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said. Analysts had expected it to come in at 7.5% year-on-year. The highest annual growth rate was recorded for retailers in hardware, paint and glass as well as retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment as well as retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods. PPI at 10.1% in November

The Producer Price Index (PPI) slowed to 10.1% in November, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Thursday. Analysts had expected it to come in at 10.6% year-on-year. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in November came out lower than market expectation, rising to 6.1%. "The headline CPI annual inflation rate in November 2011 was 6.1%. This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 6% in October 2011," said Statistics South Africa on Wednesday.
