The Standard Bank has announced a donation of R2.45 million to disaster affected areas in parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal and Eastern Cape. The two provinces have experienced extreme weather conditions characterised by heavy rainfall, and strong winds that have left extensive damage to infrastructure, homes and roads. Standard Bank’s banking website and mobile app went down earlier today with one web site monitor reporting that the site had had issues from 9:01 am this morning. It's unclear exactly what has caused the outage but the downtime marks yet another major banking glitch in South Africa over the last year. We told the cashier we wanted to draw a large sum of money and went through the whole process of entering pin code etc. The cashier then says there was a problem, and caled the supervisor.
