It is not only food that is required during these times

5 May 2020 By Alan Straton

SANBS

Source plasma is essential for treatment of multiple clinical conditions. Currently, South Africa does not produce sufficient amounts of plasma to meet patient needs. As a result, SANBS in collaboration with National Bioproducts Institute (NBI) have embarked on a program to increase collection of plasma in order to meet patient requirements for this life saving blood product. Although anyone who meets normal donation criteria can donate plasma, the SANBS specifically need blood group A … [Read more...] about It is not only food that is required during these times

AWS Butterfly Tattoo

AND You may also save more than one life in the process In response to an SMS plea from the South African National Blood Service this morning I took a walk to their premises next to Provincial Hospital in order to 'tap a pint'! As luck would have it I was unable to donate blood today - see the video for the reason why: https://youtu.be/DveuxNJ5nq8 As per the official government list of Critical Services during lockdown, point 5 under Health states: “Blood transfusion services including … [Read more...] about A PERFECT Excuse to go for a Walk or Drive During Lockdown

The drone has a range cover of over 100km and can travel up to 180km/h but can also travel as slowly as 60km/h if necessary, the SANBS said. There has been an urgent appeal for all South Africans to donate blood! Bridge Street Brewery will be hosting a "PINT for a PINT" blood drive on Tuesday, 17 October from 12:00 to 18:00 in an initiative to assist with the dangerously low blood supply that the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) announced at the end of September 2017. 24 April 2017 By Alan Straton

SANBS

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has made an earnest appeal for South Africans to step forward and donate blood in order to save people's lives. SANBS National Marketing Manager Silungile Mlambo said the national blood supply is currently at just 3.0 days' Group O stock, amounting to just over 3 000 units of O blood available around the country. "The situation is critical. We need South Africans – active donors, lapsed donors and potential donors to stand together right now … [Read more...] about Please Donate – Blood Stocks are Critically Low

Gimme your Blood or Forty Bucks

12 March 2015 By Alan Straton

Entertainment can sometimes be expensive. Instead of charging 'an arm and a leg' for their comedy improvisation show on Tuesday the 17th of March, the Whose Line PE crew is asking audience members to pay in blood – actual blood. Fortunately it's not as macabre as it sounds. The blood will be donated to the SANBS, who will be parking their mobile unit outside the Music Kitchen from 3pm to 7pm. Any member of the public can donate blood on the day, and each donor will receive two free tickets to … [Read more...] about Gimme your Blood or Forty Bucks

There is currently not a Single Unit of Blood in Port Elizabeth Blood Banks

2 February 2015 By Alan Straton

SANBS

This is frightening information as people need blood at some stage, either for after an accident, while in child labour etc. If there is no blood available then how do these people get help?  Lives are at risk... and it could be one of us or one of our family. PLEASE, if you are a regular donor – go and donate as a matter of urgency if it is within your dates for donating... but also to NEW donors – if it is on your heart to save a life, please find a clinic near you and go and donate. Every … [Read more...] about There is currently not a Single Unit of Blood in Port Elizabeth Blood Banks

Donate Blood Before the Vampires Get You

4 October 2012 By Alan Straton

SANBS

Every year Tiger Wheel & Tyre teams up with the SA National Blood Service (SANBS) to campaign for South Africans to voluntarily donate their blood, rather than wait around for attractive, young pale-faced vampires to take it against their will in the twilight hours. The nationwide 'Be A Hero' campaign runs from 1-31 October 2012 and is an effort to shore up the SANBS's blood stocks prior to the advent of the festive season, when these supplies are in high demand. Says Joe du Plooy, … [Read more...] about Donate Blood Before the Vampires Get You

The Ultimate Red Gift

23 December 2010 By Alan Straton

www.MyPE.co.za: While there's lot of gift exchanging in celebrating the festive season, South Africans are being reminded to give the gift of blood and save lives during this period. "... blood is vitally needed by hospitals, especially during the holidays as the number of people in need of surgery or blood transfusion increases due to road accidents, amongst other reasons," said Health and Social Development MEC, Ntombi Mekgwe. According to SANBS, South Africa needs 3 000 units of blood a … [Read more...] about The Ultimate Red Gift
