Today's posts from our featured Port Elizabeth Blogger: Review: Celltone Skincare by Beauty and The Baby Blog: Celltone has been on my radar for as long as I can remember, in fact it was my mom’s interest in the range that piqued my own. (I won’t deny sending brag-pics, when the range arrived for reviewing – sorry mom!) My skin has been through all sorts of stages and although it is doing [...] The post Review: Celltone Skincare appeared first on Beauty and The Baby Blog. … [Read more...] about Review: Celltone Skincare – Featured Blog

Record Review with Kevin Bryan – Port Elizabeth
Record Review with Kevin Bryan: Shawn Phillips - Perspective (Talking Elephant). Shawn Phillips has somehow managed to maintain a musical career spanning more than half a century despite this innovative Texan performer's obvious disdain for the lure of fame and popularity. When Old Friends let you down
Out of deference to my Old Friends (the restaurant and the person) I will leave identifying words and utterances out of this restaurant 'review'. Trying to get out of our rather staid ways the Longhair, her Apprentice and I popped in to a new restaurant with an old name on Friday night. Overlooking the sea, this cafe type restaurant has location, location, location. A bonus for me was that I met an old school mate at the entrance who is an owner in the establishment. What followed was … [Read more...] about When Old Friends let you down
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Review
It usually takes many years for a movie to ferment and age (even if it’s a classic) before it’s remade. The Amazing Spider-man follows only 5 years on the heels of Spider-man 3, the third in the trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. It has been dubbed a “reboot” and makes use of some of the same production team, but a fresh cast, screenwriter and director set it apart from the previous series. These changes make a big difference to a franchise which looks better, tells the story … [Read more...] about The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Review
Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (2012) – Game Review Part 1
If you’re a gamer and haven’t noticed the release of Call of Duty Black Ops 2, then I welcome you back from the island you were marooned on. The hit sequel hit the shelves on the 13th of November and hit half a billion dollar sales in the first 24 hours. Yes, $500,000,000.00, five hundred million dollars! There’s a reason why BO2 is the biggest entertainment launch for 2012, and there were more than 16,000 midnight launches of the title in shops around the world. This smiling reviewer got to … [Read more...] about Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (2012) – Game Review Part 1
Total Recall (2012) Review
I am unashamedly a massive fan of a decent Sci-Fi flick, especially one that uses the awesomeness of High Def and brings amazing visuals for my eyeballs to feast on! As far as that goes, Total Recall, the remake of the 1990 film (starring Arnold “I pull glowing ping pong balls out of my nose” Schwarzenegger) is a superb success! I was grinning from ear to ear watching the visuals of a film that looks like it was dropped in a cauldron of “Cool” overnight, pulled out and left to ooze and drip the … [Read more...] about Total Recall (2012) Review
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) Review
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is a romantic drama that stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Yes, you read right, Steve Carell in a drama. You wouldn’t normally expect one of the funniest men in America to be in a serious film, but he pulls it off superbly. There are some funny moments in the movie, but if you go into it expecting a comedy you will be disappointed. As far as romantic dramas go, Seeking a Friend is great. The film centers around Dodge (played by Carell) who is … [Read more...] about Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) Review
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) Review
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the big budget blockbuster sequel of the 2008 Action Adventure, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and is just as much fun to watch through as the first one. The story has a slight continuation on the first, but you could quite easily watch Journey 2 without the need to go back and see what happened previously. We follow Sean (who was a character in the first movie – played by Josh Hutcherson from The Hunger Games) and his step-father (played by Dwayne … [Read more...] about Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012) Review
The Lucky One (2012) Movie Review
If you’re looking for a decent romantic drama that is great for a Date Night, then look no further than The Lucky One. The film centers around a Marine who finds a photograph of a woman while on a tour in Iraq and believes it serves as a lucky charm for him during some trying times in battle. He returns to the US and he sets out to search for her and thank her for saving his life. What follows is a good story which leads you on a pleasant 101 minute journey, which helps you appreciate how the … [Read more...] about The Lucky One (2012) Movie Review
Medal Of Honor Review
One of my fondest memories of gaming was playing Medal of Honor Frontline and storming Normandy beach to attack the bunkers on top of the hill. It felt like Saving Private Ryan and at the time really gave me a sense of the panic of war. Of course, Frontline is now very old and I might not feel as excited to play it again, but thanks to Sector 17 in Port Elizabeth I got my hands on the 2010 Medal of Honor. I wanted to play it in anticipation for Medal of Honor Warfighter which is being launched … [Read more...] about Medal Of Honor Review
Madea’s Witness Protection Review
I must start by saying that movies that have one actor playing numerous roles have the potential to be good or a flop. For instance, Austin Powers by Mike Myers – good, Madea’s Witness Protection by Tyler Perry– flop. Unfortunately, that’s not the only reason this film was sub standard in my opinion. From the onset the acting seems a bit flat and there isn’t any real depth in the characters. There are the stereotypical characters you would expect, like the spoilt , bratty daughter, the … [Read more...] about Madea’s Witness Protection Review
Call Of Duty Black Ops Review
I had just finished Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (which I thought was great) and Call Of Duty: World at War (which I thought was forgettable), when I managed to get Call Of Duty: Black Ops. I finished it some time back but decided to go back to the campaign to replay the parts that made me love it, in anticipation for Black Ops 2 (review hopefully soon to come!). The first action packed mission I selected to replay left me grinning and remembering what made this game great. Usually with … [Read more...] about Call Of Duty Black Ops Review
Battlefield Bad Company 2 Review
The war rages on between Call of Duty fans and Battlefield fans. Judging by comments and discussions it seems that players from both sides of the "battlefield" have plenty of ammo as to why their favourite is the greatest. As mentioned in my review of Call of Duty Black Ops, I am a fan of the COD franchise and thoroughly enjoyed Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, but was left a bit bored with World at War. Battlefield Bad Company 2 was a game that I played purely because I wanted to play the … [Read more...] about Battlefield Bad Company 2 Review
