Good News for Redhouse

25 February 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Redhouse Motherwell Stormwater

Hi, William Pierce-Jones has just sent me the results of the water tests the Redhouse Yacht Club had done recently. Samples were taken at the RYC/Rowing club. 11 February 2015 e.coli: 4 per 100 ml – taken on an outgoing tide. 17 February 2015 e.coli: 37 per 100 ml – taken at high tide. According to the metro the count should be less than 130 per 100 ml for recreational use, so this is way below that. It must be noted that these were the results for those dates & times. However … [Read more...] about Good News for Redhouse

RYC 110 Commodores

On Sunday 2 November the Redhouse Yacht Club hosted a number of ex-commodores at a luncheon to celebrate RYC's 110 year anniversary. What a treat to watch the eyes of long ago Commodores sparkle with enthusiasm as they rekindled old memories and friendships over a frosty or three before the slap up lunch provided by the ladies of the club. RYC was founded on 24 October 1904, when 16 gentlemen met at the Zwartkops Rowing Club in the little Village of Redhouse, under the chairmanship of Mr R.P. … [Read more...] about Redhouse celebrates 110 years of sailing

Great Train Race Uitenhage

Whilst hundreds of runners pounded the streets from Port Elizabeth to Uitenhage in the inaugural Great Train Race, the Longhair and I - along with 600 or so close friends from PE - allowed the train to pull us along the route with stops at North End, Sydenham, New Brighton, Swartkops, Redhouse, Perserverance, Despatch, de Mist and finally the Uitenhage Train Station. We urged the runners on and revelled in the excitement of children who were on their first train trip ever - one was heard to … [Read more...] about And we had great fun on the train

Expert says that Red tide is no threat to River Mile

10 February 2014 By Alan Straton

Redhouse River Mile

With the red tide bloom having decayed in most parts of Algoa Bay, swimmers in this weekend's SPAR River Mile Festival will have no reason to fear any lingering effects on the Sundays River. According to estuarine ecology expert Professor Janine Adams of NMMU, the large-scale bloom of Lingulodinium polyedrum had been present in both the Sundays River estuary mouth and the Swartkops River, which is traditionally the home of the race. In the Sundays River, Adams said the red tide had been … [Read more...] about Expert says that Red tide is no threat to River Mile

Lasers Young and Old

On Sunday 10 November the Algoa Bay Yacht Club hosted the second dinghy regatta of the weekend of 9 and 10 November 2013 which saw an entry of 18 boats of which only 11 managed to sail at least one race. Once again high winds and equipment breakages managed to sort the prepared from the unprepared as, before the start of the first race, 7 boats (4 in Fleet 1 and 3 in Fleet 2) opted for the comfort of the yacht club lawns after limping back or being towed in from the harbour. Once again the … [Read more...] about ABYC Dinghy Regatta – 10 November 2013
