IDP meeting interruptions political ploy by ANC and EFF

13 April 2018 By Alan Straton

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The interruption of and violence at IDP meetings in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality by what seems to be African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) forces, highlights the fact that these opposition parties care nothing for the well-being of ordinary citizens. More than half of the meetings held have been disrupted and collapsed. Last night, violence broke out at a meeting at Colchester, where councillors' vehicles were stoned and petrol … [Read more...] about IDP meeting interruptions political ploy by ANC and EFF

The DA will be hosting a #SaveNMB Rally on Vuyisile Mini Square outside the City Hall in Port Elizabeth. This takes place in the run-up to the EFF’s motion of no-confidence in the Mayor and the coalition government on the 29th of March. This is an opportunity for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay to raise their … [Read more...] about #SaveNMB Rally

NMB residents requested to lobby opposition to not hand City back to the ANC

22 March 2018 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE   The time has come for the people of the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) to raise their voices and lobby all councillors in the municipal council to not hand the City back to the corrupt and ineffective African National Congress (ANC).   The people of NMB decisively rejected the corrupt ANC at the ballot box during the 2016 local government elections with 59.1% of voters choosing to vote for other political parties. They made it clear, through their vote, that they wanted total … [Read more...] about NMB residents requested to lobby opposition to not hand City back to the ANC

Coalition will fight to save Metro from corrupt ANC

15 March 2018 By Alan Straton

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape notes the plethora of motions aimed at removing the entire DA-led coalition structure that was filed with the Speaker’s Office. This motion was filed by the African Independent Council (AIC) and backed by the EFF. Council in the presence of both the AIC and EFF resolved to scrap the position of the deputy mayor. It’s very clear to us that these motions have nothing to do with the performance of the DA-led coalition government, but … [Read more...] about Coalition will fight to save Metro from corrupt ANC

Ward 20 ANC councillor, Bongo Nombiba, guilty of fraud

9 March 2018 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The DA-led coalition government in Nelson Mandela Bay’s tough stance on criminality within the Municipality was vindicated today after fraud and corruption was dealt a devastating blow. This after the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court found Ward 20 ANC councillor, Bongo Nombiba, guilty of fraud and money laundering. Nombiba stole R20 000 out of a discretionary fund that was allocated for a NGO. This proves the ANC cannot be trusted with the people’s money and that … [Read more...] about Ward 20 ANC councillor, Bongo Nombiba, guilty of fraud

Athol Trollip Mayoral Chains

Dear MyPE The DA in the Eastern Cape stand in full support of Athol Trollip, executive mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Metro, in his court battle against Ms Nonthutuzelo Jack. Ms Jack made a public statement to the Daily Dispatch on the 25th of March 2016, that Mayor Trollip had tried to bribe her to “dig up dirt” on the former DA Provincial Chairperson, Veliswa Mvenya. The newspaper’s front page headline read “Trollip trips over bribe claim”. This headline and the affidavit … [Read more...] about Party supports Mayor in court battle

About Bobani’s false claims

16 January 2018 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The UDM’s Mongameli Bobani should focus his efforts on answering for his poor track record and alleged acts of corruption instead of commenting on matters he has no idea about. It is clear he is trying to find relevance by using the good name of the Democratic Alliance (DA), a party trusted with bettering the lives of approximately 18 million South Africans, including residents of Nelson Mandela Bay. In 2017 Bobani was, through a vote of no confidence in the municipal council of … [Read more...] about About Bobani’s false claims

20 November 2017 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE In the light of the violence, looting and destruction of property that broke out in the Northern Areas of Nelson Mandela Bay a week ago and fresh evidence of sabotage by some rogue elements, the DA in the Eastern Cape calls on the South African Police Services (SAPS) to prioritise and speed up its investigations into sabotage by some municipal officials in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB). Member of the Mayoral Committee, Councillor Annette Lovemore, laid charges of sabotage with the … [Read more...] about SAPS urged to act swiftly on sabotage charges in NMB

Dmaging Statements by Makana Municipality

20 October 2017 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance notes the media statement by an unknown municipal official that was released today and which states that “…If the residents of Makana Municipality, particularly on the Western side, continue to disregard the water restrictions that have been put in place by the Municipality, Settler’s Dam might run dry by the end of November”. The DA finds this statement reckless and divisive and we call on the municipality to retract it. While we acknowledges the water … [Read more...] about Dmaging Statements by Makana Municipality

21 September 2017 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The DA in the Eastern Cape notes the withdrawal of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) from the coalition government in Nelson Mandela Bay. While this is regrettable, it has no impact on the government's work in delivering better services, growing the economy to create jobs and stopping corruption. Regards Cllr Mlindi Nhanha DA EC Provincial Spokesperson … [Read more...] about DA Eastern Cape notes PA’s withdrawal from NMB coalition

Dear MyPE Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) is moving forward again, with improved basic service delivery and the wide-spread eradication of corruption. The Eastern Cape has countless municipalities where service delivery has either collapsed or is on a knife-edge of imminent collapse. 12 July 2017 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape is proud to announce the DA-led Kouga Municipality’s success to provide electricity to over 200 families from Donkerhoek. Donkerhoek was an informal settlement that had to be formalised in order for us to give it the best services possible. That meant, Kouga Municipality had to survey plots and allocate specific plots to community members. Through this game-changing initiative led by Executive Mayor Elza Van Lingen, Kouga … [Read more...] about Kouga Municipality provides electricity to Donkerhoek informal settlement
