Democratic Alliance supports Nelson Mandela Bay Adjustments budget Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance today has supported the Nelson Mandela Bay adjustments budget, which was tabled in council. While we have reservations with regards to certain allocations, we had no choice but to support the budget, as we do not want to give any further reasons for National Treasury to follow through on the withholding of the municipality’s R800 million in equitable share. The R800 million in … [Read more...] about Let’s Pass the Adjustments Budget

Councillors are not supposed to be involved in anything related to tenders
DA lays criminal charges against ANC’s Andile Lungisa Dear MyPE Today, 20 February 2020, I was joined by DA Councillors Morne Steyn and Gustav Rautenbach, in laying criminal charges against NMB Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Infrastructure and Engineering, ANC Cllr Andile Lungisa, for contravening the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) after allegedly getting involved in municipal tender processes. A recent letter sent by MMC Lungisa, to local companies, shows him … [Read more...] about Councillors are not supposed to be involved in anything related to tenders
MMC Lungisa must be investigated for interfering in NMB tenders
Dear MyPE While service delivery in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has ground to a halt and the City is on the brink of financial ruin, the ANC-led coalition of corruption is no longer even trying to hide its flouting of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and the councillors code of conduct as contained in Schedule 1 of the Municipal Systems Act. A recent letter, sent by the Member of the Mayoral Committee(MMC) for Infrastructure and Engineering, Cllr Andile Lungisa, to … [Read more...] about MMC Lungisa must be investigated for interfering in NMB tenders

Bay Municipality’s Rules and Ethics Committee not just policeman for Councillors
Cllr Jonathan Lawack, Speaker of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Council, said the newly established Rules and Ethics Committee should not just be considered as a policeman for Councillors but also as an important instrument to improve the workings of the local legislature. “Yes, this committee will hold all Councillors responsible for adherence to the Code of Conduct for Councillors, including myself, Executive Mayor Athol Trollip as well as the rest of the 120 lawmakers represented in … [Read more...] about Bay Municipality’s Rules and Ethics Committee not just policeman for Councillors
Danny Jordaan’s gets spanked over his first 100 days of broken promises and scandal evasion
The following remarks were delivered by Athol Trollip in Nelson Mandela Bay today, in reviewing the first 100 days of Danny Jordaan's Mayoralty in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality: One hundred days into office, Danny Jordaan has disappointed and disserved the people of Nelson Mandela Bay, in the style of all ANC Mayors before him. Jordaan has spent his first 100 day in office deflecting scandal after scandal, rather than serving the desperate needs of our people. In just 100 days Jordaan … [Read more...] about Danny Jordaan’s gets spanked over his first 100 days of broken promises and scandal evasion
Lessons to be learnt from 1990 Northern Areas riots
Dear MyPE The commemorative wreath-laying in honour of the scores of people who died in the 1990 northern areas uprising, left me with mixed emotions. What was initially a well-orchestrated and legitimate course of action to persuade the municipality to decrease the rental on municipal houses, was sadly hijacked by criminals with tragic results. Fueled by lawless mobs, the looting and extensive damage to business properties spiralled out of control. A few days later families had to bury … [Read more...] about Lessons to be learnt from 1990 Northern Areas riots
Electricity supply challenges in NMBM call for urgent intervention
Dear MyPE Huge parts of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality are currently experiencing electricity supply challenges. This could be ascribed to recent torrential downpours, stress on the city grid due to continued switching required by load shedding, outages due to the number of illegal connections and finally, due to the massive maintenance backlogs on a crumbling city infrastructure. To exacerbate matters, the municipal employees of the electricity directorate who are affected by the … [Read more...] about Electricity supply challenges in NMBM call for urgent intervention
Electricity losses rob communities of better services
Dear MyPE In Nelson Mandela Bay more than R200 million is lost annually due to electricity losses while water losses for the same period account for more than R300 million. The failure on the part of the governing party to effectively address these issues deprives poor communities of the opportunity to enjoy quality service delivery. The money lost could go a long way towards finding a metro police force which would afford all residents the opportunity to live safely in their communities … [Read more...] about Electricity losses rob communities of better services
