President Zuma sends condolences to Italy following Deadly Earthquake: President Jacob Zuma, has today, Wednesday, 24 August 2016, on behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, extended the country’s deepest condolences to the Republic of Italy following the earthquake that struck central Italy, in the regions of Lazio and Umbria, which resulted in the deaths of tens of citizens and extensive damage in several towns. Japan’s Nuclear Crisis Escalates

As Japan struggles to contain a spiraling nuclear crisis, another fire has broken out at the quake-crippled No. 4 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo, raising fears of more radiation contamination. International Automotive Supplier Reaches out to Japan

Port Elizabeth - International automotive supplier, Continental, announced its solidarity with the people of Japan and on 15 March pledged €250,000 (around R2.4 million) in emergency aid for those living in the regions destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami. South African Relief Team off to Japan

A team of about 50 specialists including doctors, paramedics and rescue dogs is expected to leave for earthquake ravaged Japan this evening. The South Africa team will also be carrying about 16 tons of food, specialised equipment and camping gear, as they make their way to Japan try assist in the search for survivors of a massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the country's east coast. Social networking sites were abuzz with news of an earthquake near Port Elizabeth and Cape Town on Tuesday morning. News started going around on radio stations and spread to social networking sites such as Twitter.
