October CPI rises to 5.6%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October rose to 5.6% year-on-year, Statistics South Africa said. "This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 5.5% in September 2012," said Stats SA. Market expectation was that CPI would come in at 5.4%. The October number had edged up closer to the upper limit of the 3 to 6% target set by the Reserve Bank. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 5.5% in September, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. "Headline CPI (for all urban areas) annual inflation rate in September 2012 was 5.5%. This rate was 0.5% higher than the corresponding annual rate of 5% in August 2012," said Stats SA. Market expectation was that CPI would accelerate to 5.2% year on year. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August rose to 5% in line with market expectation, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. "The headline CPI annual inflation rate in August 2012 was 5%. This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 4.9% in July 2012," said Stats SA. CPI eases to 6% in March

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) eased to 6% in March, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. Expectation was that it would ease to 6%, off from 6.1% in February, which was above the Reserve Bank's inflation target of between 3% and 6. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) slowed to 6.1% in February, down from 6.3% in January, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said. Bloomberg consensus was that inflation would tick-up to 6.4% year-on-year. "On average, prices increased by 0.6% between January 2012 and February 2012," said Stats SA on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) continued its upward trend, rising to 6.3% in January, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) announced on Wednesday. Market expectation was that it would rise to 6.2% from December's 6.1%. "On average, prices increased by 0.6% between December 2011 and January 2012," said Stats SA. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) remained at 6.1% in December, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. "The headline CPI annual inflation rate in December 2011 was 6.1%. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in November came out lower than market expectation, rising to 6.1%. "The headline CPI annual inflation rate in November 2011 was 6.1%. This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 6% in October 2011," said Statistics South Africa on Wednesday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October rose to 6%, reaching the upper end of the target range, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said today. "This rate was 0.3 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 5.7% in September 2011. The Consumer Price Index in September rose to 5.7%, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said. "This rate was 0.4 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 5.3% in August 2011. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 5.3% ahead of market expectation, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. Standard Bank economist Shireen Darmalingam said the figure came out slightly higher than the 5% analysts had forecasted. Stats SA said on average, prices increased by 0.9% between June and July 2011. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 5% in June in line with market expectation, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday. "Consumer prices rose by 0.4% month-on-month and 5.0% year-on-year in June after increasing by 0.5% month-on-month and 4.6% year-on-year in May. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in May rose above market expectation to 4.6 percent, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Wednesday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April rose to 4.2 percent, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Tuesday. "This rate was 0.1 of a percentage point higher than the corresponding annual rate of 4.1 percent in March 2011," said Stats SA. Market expectation was that it would come in at 4.4 percent. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 4.1 percent in March - well above market expectations. Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) on Wednesday released the data showing that CPI was higher in March compared to February's 3.7 percent.
