The British Airways plane that was stranded at OR Tambo International Airport early Monday afternoon after leaving Port Elizabeth "experienced an unusual vibration which was followed shortly by the collapse of the left landing gear". A big culvert (underground stormwater crossing the road) on Buffelsfontein Road collapsed this morning disrupting traffic. To prevent congestion and allow for road maintenance works to start immediately, the municipality will close the road at the Swift and 10th Avenue intersections. Gariep Municipality Bounces Cheque Unable to Pay Staff

The Gariep municipality in the Eastern Cape is unable to pay staff and councillors this month. This is symptomatic of the collapse of local government in the rural areas. There are other municipalities in the province experiencing the same problems.   On Wednesday 29 June an amount of R121 000 was paid to the Sheriff to avoid having municipal assets attached for debt owed.
