Schools plagued with concerns over safe reopening; DBE has 1 week to step in

8 February 2021 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE With only two weeks to go before schools reopen, there is still a lot of concerns regarding school readiness in the provinces, that the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Basic Education visited during its oversight to KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and Gauteng this week. The Democratic Alliance (DA) therefore calls on the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to get its house in order in ensuring schools safely reopen for learners on the 15th of February. The reality is that … [Read more...] about Schools plagued with concerns over safe reopening; DBE has 1 week to step in

8 October 2020 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape is extremely pleased that the pressure we placed on the Eastern Cape Department of Education has paid off, and that four prefab classrooms have now finally been delivered to the Lutateni Senior Secondary School near Mount Frere. The school, … [Read more...] about Intervention leads to better school facilities for Mount Frere learners

Human Rights Commission called to intervene in Alfred Nzo District water crisis

25 July 2019 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The uncaring ANC-led Alfred Nzo District Municipality has proven that it feels nothing for the basic human rights and general well-being of the residents of Ndarhala Village near Mount Ayliff in the Eastern Cape. On Monday, 8 July 2019, I conducted an oversight inspection at Ndarhala Village and was shocked to find the community’s only water source is the Umzimvubu River. The residents share this water source with animals and carcasses of dead animals can also regularly be … [Read more...] about Human Rights Commission called to intervene in Alfred Nzo District water crisis
