Baby dumped in Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth - A 42-year-old woman was arrested for child abandonment after her 6-week-old baby girl was found in a canal in Missionvale, northern Port Elizabeth, on Sunday morning. Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the child was found by members of the community around 11:30. They initially thought the child was dead. This sad story came to my attention through Bongiwe Rasi from Block 40 (the immediate surrounding community of the Red Location Museum/Precinct). Bongiwe is one of the participants in the Red Location Arts and Crafts Project. Two months ago Bongiwe's neighbour, Nomonde, gave birth to a baby born with the brain outside the skull and Dora Nginza Hospital apparently sent the mother and baby home without any medical assistance, telling her that the baby was going to die anyway.
