Swartkops River: conservation and protection makes for a good property buy

If approved under the Ramsar Convention, the initiative will ensure the protection of a key environmental asset that could play a huge part in the sustainable use of the river, and in boosting the Bay’s tourism prospects.

“This is a long-term plan, and if it succeeds in creating a sustainable wetland and conserving its beauty, the Swartkops area will benefit hugely,” says Chas Everitt Nelson Mandela Bay principal Charlotte Vermaak. “As it is now the area is going through changes that make Amsterdamhoek a great place to buy either as an investment or as a place to make a home.”

Many families have lived on the banks of the Swartkops River for generations, and many homes have stayed in those families, she notes, so when a property does become available for sale, it’s usually in high demand.
