This year is the first year that I am attending the Grahamstown National Arts Festival and when my Dad and myself were driving down to Grahamstown we sat in his bakkie flipping through the programme and trying to make a schedule for ourselves. Now as I was flipping through the programme I noticed a heading: The Stuart Reece Band. I have heard of them before and have only heard good things so I turned to my dad and said that we must go. So as my dad wanted to support local acts he agreed. Now I would like to take this time to point out that it was entirely my decision to go and listen to them.
Now as my dear Father was called away to speak to my Mom on the phone I was left in charge of finishing the review on this band. Now I found this very appropriate as I am someone who loves music and discovering new bands plus my Dad knows that this band has quickly become one of my favourites leaving me with only positive things to say.
The band from the lovely city of Port Elizabeth consists of five members. Stuart Reece on Vocals and guitar. Wesley Keet on Keyboards and backing vocals. Hugo Kleinhans on Lead guitar. Barry Killian on Bass guitar and Kristo Zondagh on Drums and percussion.
So early in the morning at 11:00 am (Yes, this is early for myself as I have been growing accustomed to being able to lie in bed until 10:00 am during the holiday) we braved the cold and missioned to the Lowlander to find seat in the second row. Despite my early morning start I was almost instantly awake after their first song. I am not sure how to describe their music as all the descriptions I can think of seem a bit inadequate but on their Facebook page their sound is described as Folk pop/ Soft rock. Though, for me, their music reminds me of summer and actually got me pumped to face the cold of Grahamstown and seize the day. I wish I could name my favourite song from their set but sadly it hasn’t been named yet.
After listening to their music I told my dad that we simply had to get their CD (honestly, he had no say in the matter), which we did purchase and have been listening too whilst driving from venue to venue. The Stuart Reece band is probably one of the best bands from Port Elizabeth and has slightly convinced me that Port Elizabeth might not be that bad (You can guess that as a teenage girl I grow occasionally bored with this town, as bad as that sounds especially coming from the daughter of the owner of MyPE, I hope you can forgive me Dad – (Eds note: NO!).
I would highly recommend the Stuart Reece band to anyone attending the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. I know I certainly will be keeping an eye out for more gigs of theirs in Port Elizabeth.

Thanks so much for your awesome review! We as a band appreciate it very much. Just one correction, the lead guitarist was Hugo Kleinhans, not Rob Thompson 🙂
Thanks Barry – corrected
